Student Access

is key at Merton, and a signature mark of our MCR

At Merton MCR, we take care to make all opportunities available to every student, and to integrate everyone fully into our rich and diverse community.

The Merton College graduate community is comprised not just of students who completed their undergraduate degrees in Oxford, but also of fourth-year undergraduates at Merton, and graduates who have previously studied at other UK or foreign Universities.

Our Middle Common Room (MCR) community is proud to be internationally diverse. Students bring their unique undergraduate experiences to Oxford to become part of this shared and welcoming environment. Since many of us completed our undergraduate degrees at a non-Oxbridge institution, we understand that the prospect of coming here for the first time can be intimidating. No need to worry though - all of us are very welcoming and down to earth!

Financial Aid

The College has a number of financial policies to help make graduate study at Oxford more accessible. These include graduate scholarships, as well as several grants and awards to help students with ongoing research expenses, purchasing books, enrolling in language courses and participating in sporting activities. Merton also takes measures to subsidise the costs of meals and formal dinners in Hall to reduce the amount students have to pay. Additionally, there is a support fund available to students who encounter unexpected financial hardship over the course of their study.

Accommodation

Our Graduate Accommodation in Holywell Quad is also heavily subsidised by the College, making it affordable to live in the centre of the city.

Many graduates have rooms available for at least two and often more years in this accommodation, offering a wonderful space to socialise with friends. We have a series of Guest Rooms as well for MCR Guests.
